It was an amusing moment for Buffalo loyalists when new wide receiver recruit Keon Coleman revealed that Josh Allen had texted him "You're the guy I want" during his introduction press conference.
Allen's proactiveness illuminated not only his initiative in team-building but also his confidence in building Coleman into a standout player. Coleman, a 6-foot-3 wide receiver with an impressive catch radius and 11 touchdowns last season at Florida State, is known for his exceptional play speed. He clocked a position-high 20.36 miles-per-hour at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.
However, it wasn't Coleman's physical attributes that captivated Allen. Instead, it was his performance when he wasn’t the primary read on a play that caught Allen's attention. Allen, during a recent appearance on Eric Wood’s Centered on Buffalo podcast, explained what drew him to Coleman.
"I think if you looked at him not just when he was getting targets, but when he wasn’t getting targeted, when he was running clear out routes, when he was going and blocking and actually taking it personal,” Allen said.
Allen praised his new teammate's tenacity, his ability to adjust mid-air, and catch back-shoulder passes, which he demonstrated at Florida State and Michigan State.
Allen's chosen receiver is expected to play a crucial role in Buffalo's receiving corps, and Coleman seems ready for the challenge. His training camp performances and his great chemistry with Allen already hint at a promising future.
With Allen's hand in roster construction and his faith in new recruits like Coleman, the Buffalo Bills seem to be on an exciting trajectory.
